Onondaga Nation- the 6th grade class at ONS finished their ancient Rome unit with a project on Roman shields. Students were asked to design and create a Roman shield using a design that had some importance to them. Each student then had to write a description about their design and what it meant to them.

Mr. Gryzo said of the project, “The class was extremely creative and submitted projects that included everything from the Haudenosaunee flag, eagles, campfires, snakes, eels representing their clan, family crests and more traditional designs one might have found in Ancient Rome.”

“I really liked being able to research my family crest," said Quiana. “I never knew I had one, and it gave me a chance to share that in my presentation."

Keegan stated, “It gave me chance to show who I am, and where I come from.”
Fellow classmate Diana added, “I liked the final project because it wasn’t just another test. It was research, art, writing and presenting all in one project.”
The excitement could be seen in all of their finished projects.
