Multiplication Families

Onondaga Nation- In Mr. McCoy’s third grade classroom, there has been a lot of multiplication and division going on. His students have been learning how to skip count on a number line, use objects to count, and use repeated addition to solve multiplication problems.
“We have been exploring many different ways to show multiplication,” said Mr. McCoy. “The kids are doing a great job.  They are now beginning to connect what they are learning about in multiplication to division.”
One way the 3rd graders are learning about the relationship between multiplication and division is to make math families.
“Making my math family was fun and awesome,” said 3rd grader Makiyah. “You can see that my people are all related.”
As the third graders continued to decorate their families with number lines and happy faces, Jonaca stated, “These families will really help me with my multiplication quizzes.”
