New York State requires school districts to perform an early release drill at least once per school year. LaFayette Central School district will perform an early release drill on Friday February 17, 2023.
Here are the dismissal times for students on February 17, 2023:
Grimshaw Elementary: 1:45 Dismissal
Jr/Sr High and Big Picture Dismissal: 2:00 Dismissal
Onondaga Nation School:1:45 Dismissal
Students will board buses at the times mentioned above. If you normally pick your child up from school, please be sure to pick your child up at the times listed above. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the main office at your child's school.

2023 Senior Class Signs Available to Purchase:
Reminder: The Class of 2023 is selling both senior class signs and community support signs for another couple of weeks. All profits from the sale of these signs will benefit the senior class end-of-year celebration.
Each sign is 18”x24”, double-sided, and comes included with a wire lawn stake. They cost $15 apiece, and can be purchased via Venmo (payable to the LaFayetteAthletic-BoosterClub), cash, or check. Please email LaFayetteABC1@gmail.com, or contact Lisa at (315) 415-7932 to order either (or both) sign(s).
The deadline to order is Jan. 16 , and this batch will be the only one produced. Order pickup is expected to be around Feb. 1.

2023 Scholastic Art Awards Winners:
The LaFayette Central School District’s Art Department is thrilled to announce the 2023 Scholastic Art award winning recipients! Of the over 4,000 individual entries submitted for the Central New York Region, the voting saw 16 LaFayette students receive awards for a total of 20 submissions. Their artworks will be displayed at Onondaga Community College from Jan. 11 - March 3, and there will also be a special awards ceremony honoring all recipients held on Jan. 17. ...

On Saturday December 17, 2022, the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School Student Council is hosting a “Parents Day Out” event!
The event promises a fun afternoon of games and activities for kids ages 4 to 11, supervised by Student Council students and advisors, which aims to give parents some much needed time to shop, decorate, or to do whatever else they need to do! The event will take place on Saturday December 17, 2022 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM in the LaFayette Junior-Senior High School Cafeteria. Snacks and a pizza lunch will be provided. If your child has allergies, please make sure you provide snacks that he/she can have.

ONS Initiative: "Extending our Roots":
This year, the Onondaga Nation School (ONS) has undertaken a cool enterprise: the “Extending Our Roots” initiative. Conceived by the school’s Restorative Practice Team (RPT), the goal of this initiative is to create and foster relationships that will better help anchor the school to its community, while simultaneously encouraging students to get out and try different activities.
How it works: Each month, 30 minutes are reserved for students in grades Pre-K-5 to choose where they would like to go, and which activity they would like to try. Activities are conceived by both middle school students and staff, and by tapping into individual talents and interests. Oneida Nation Chef Visits ONS:
Recently, Chef Arlie Doxtator returned to the Onondaga Nation School for three days of traditional cooking with the students as part of his “Three Chefs – Three Fires” program!
A member of the Oneida Nation, Chef Doxtator has been cooking professionally for more than three decades, and shared his vast experience with traditional foods and cooking techniques with ONS students.

Vaccine Clinic Monday November 28, 2022 - Grimshaw Elementary 3:00-6:00 PM
Dear Families and Staff Members:
Wegmans Pharmacy will offer an optional vaccination clinic on Monday November 28, 2022 from 3:00-6:00 PM in the cafeteria lobby at Grimshaw Elementary School.
Vaccinations available at this clinic include the Pfizer Bivalent Booster for ages 5 and older, and the flu vaccine (ages 2+ and 65+). Parents must accompany any students participating in the clinic. The clinic is open to all LaFayette students, families, staff members, or community members.

2022 NHS Inductee Ceremony:
On Nov. 9, the LaFayette Chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 13 new members into the organization.
At the induction, NHS President Emily McClary gave a speech comparing the four pillars of honor society to the attributes of an artist:
Connecting scholarship with an artist's perseverance;
Character with attitude and discipline;
Service with a need to create for others, and;
Leadership with an artist's ability to inspire

Good Afternoon -
This is Jeremy Belfield, Superintendent for LaFayette Central Schools.
Ms. Petranchuk, our principal at Grimshaw Elementary school was informed this morning about .22 caliber ammunition rounds found in the gymnasium at Grimshaw Elementary at approximately 7:45 this morning.
A student found the ammunition rounds on the floor of the gymnasium and immediately notified school staff. Our school resource officer identified the items as .22 caliber bullets. The staff member turned the item over to the principal. Our principal interviewed the students who recovered the item and our on-site Onondaga County Sheriff deputies searched the area for any other prohibited items. Following a search ...
