Onondaga Nation School- Digital Instruction Will Continue for the Remainder of the School Year Onondaga Nation School- Digital Instruction Will Continue for the Remainder of the School Year: January 14, 2021   Dear LaFayette Central School District Community:   District representatives recently corresponded with the Onondaga Nation Council of Chiefs, Clanmothers, and Faithkeepers. The Council has decided that the Onondaga Nation School will continue to remain closed for in person instruction and that all students and staff will participate in digital instruction for the duration of the school year.   The Onondaga Nation School calendar will also be adjusted so that Monday January 18th will be a day off from school to observe the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Our community budget meetings will be held via video conference on the following dates:

  • Asymptomatic COVID Testing Wed 1/13/21 HS/BP, GS Asymptomatic COVID Testing Wed 1/13/21 HS/BP, GS: January 7, 2021 Dear LaFayette CSD Families, LaFayette CSD and OCM BOCES Staff Members: Our partners at Onondaga County have graciously agreed to host an on-site testing clinic for asymptomatic  students and staff at the following locations on Wednesday January 13, 2021:
  • Wednesday 1/13/2021 - LaFayette Jr/Sr High and Big Picture School - 8:30-10:30AM
  • Wednesday 1/13/2021- Grimshaw Elementary - 11:30AM-1:30PM Students and staff would need to pre-register for an appointment for testing. For students, who are being tested, NYS also requires parents/guardians to complete a consent form (two steps below; staff members only need to register). 
  • Update on Positive Cases - January 6, 2021 Update on Positive Cases - January 6, 2021: January 6, 2021   Good Afternoon -    The district was recently informed of the following positive cases that occurred over the holiday break:  
  • A staff member at LaFayette High School tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member has not been in close contact with other school employees recently. 
  • A digital learner at LaFayette Big Picture School tested positive. 
  • A student at LaFayette High School tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last in attendance before the holiday break.
  • Two digital learners at the Onondaga Nation School tested positive for COVID-19. ...
  • COVID Testing Clinic Results - January 4, 2021 COVID Testing Clinic Results - January 4, 2021: January 4, 2021   Good Afternoon -   Thank you to all of our students and staff that participated in COVID testing today. 82 individuals were tested at the High School and 104 individuals were tested at Grimshaw Elementary.   There were no positive cases from this testing clinic.  Great job Lancers!   Thank you to our partners at Onondaga County for all of their efforts with today’s testing clinic. We are working with the county to schedule another round of testing in the month of January.     Positive Cases - January 3, 2021 Positive Cases - January 3, 2021: January 3, 2021   Good Evening:   The district was notified later this afternoon that a student at the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School and one digital learner at the Onondaga Nation School tested positive for COVID-19. The students have not recently been in close contact with students or staff in the school setting.    The district has notified the Onondaga County Health Department of these positive cases.   Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, and LaFayette Big Picture School will return to offering in person instruction on Monday January 4, 2021. The students have not recently been in close contact with in person learners in the school setting. As such, there will be no in person learning and, if necessary, families will need to make appropriate child care arrangements for students.     Onondaga Nation School Teacher Named to Prestigious Panel Onondaga Nation School Teacher Named to Prestigious Panel: Congratulations are in order for Onondaga Nation School’s JoAnne Powless, who was recently named to the prestigious “Charlotte Huck Award for Outstanding Fiction for Children” judges panel! She becomes one of seven judges who will be responsible for deciding each year’s winner in the fiction category, which means she’ll have plenty of reading to do!  Joanne was selected for this three-year membership to the committee by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). The award was established in 2014 to promote and recognize excellence in the writing of fiction for children.     Water Testing Results - LaFayette Jr/Sr High and Grimshaw 12/14 Water Testing Results - LaFayette Jr/Sr High and Grimshaw 12/14: December 14, 2020   Dear Families:   As required by the NYS Health Department, and in conjunction with the Onondaga County Health Department and OCM BOCES Health & Safety Office, the district is required to conduct lead water sampling from outlets within the schools every five years. In this study, water samples found to have the presence of lead with 15 parts per billion are identified.   The district conducted the sampling on November 7, 2020 from Grimshaw Elementary School and LaFayette Jr./Sr. High School. The samples were then delivered to Microbac Laboratories for analysis. In accordance with state requirements, sampling at the Onondaga Nation School will be done when that building reopens for in person instruction. ...
