LaFayette CSD artists excel in regional art competition

Twenty-six LaFayette Junior/Senior High School students recently won a total of 38 awards in the 2017 Central New York Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.

The event, which this year received 5,413 art submissions from hundreds of student-artists in grades 7-12 in the 13-county Central New York region, has been celebrating the work of students for more than 70 years. Individual pieces and portfolios were awarded Gold Key (highest honor), Silver Key and Honorable Mention.

Four LaFayette students received Gold Keys, nine students won a total of 13 Silver Keys, and 18 students received a total of 20 Honorable Mention awards.

Gold Key recipients were recognized during a January 12 awards ceremony at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena. Their award-winning work will automatically be considered for national-level recognition, according to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website.

The Scholastic Art Awards exhibition is on display at Onondaga Community College's Whitney Applied Technology Center now through March 3. Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free and the exhibit is open to the public.
