2022 Scholastic Art Award Winners Announced:
Recently, the Scholastic Art Awards named their 2022 award recipients for Central New York. This year's recipients were chosen from among more than 3,900 individual entries submitted for our region, and the LaFayette Central School District saw 21 students received awards, totaling 30 winning submissions!

Their award-winning work will be on display in the Whitney Applied Technology Center on the Onondaga Community College campus from Jan. 12 - March 5 . Opening night of the show will feature a special virtual awards ceremony to honor all recipients.

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful break over the holidays and had the chance to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. 2022 promises to be a great year now that the Buffalo Bills are in the playoffs- Go Bills!
The Belfield family welcomed a new pet Guinea pig during the holidays. I am pleased to introduce everyone to Gannon the Guinea pig. The Belfield twins had a variety of requests for a new pet - llama, goat, cat, etc. We compromised with a Guinea pig who is in desperate need of a good hair stylist.

Onondaga Nation School Switch to Remote Instruction 1/4/22:

Dear Families and Staff Members:
The Onondaga Nation School will be closed for student instruction tomorrow, Tuesday January 4, 2022, for a staff development day. ONS staff members should report to the building and prepare student learning materials and assist with device distribution. Teachers should communicate directly with parents and students on how to connect for remote learning which will begin on Wednesday January 5, 2022. Principal Gonyea and classroom teachers will communicate directly with families regarding device and learning material pick up which will occur Tuesday afternoon. Dear Families,
This week Governor Kathy Hochul announced the statewide goal of providing students an opportunity to be tested for COVID-19 as school resumes after holiday break. There is no requirement that families test their children, but the Governor is encouraging the testing of students in order to keep students and school communities as safe as possible. We received word that test kits were delivered this afternoon to our local BOCES and the district will pick them up tomorrow morning.
Test kits will be available for parents to pick up at the following locations and times:

Dear LaFayette School Community:
I have a few updates for our students, staff members and families. While 2021 has been loaded with lots of bad news, I wanted to start with good news first to help shine a light on the great work by our students. It was an awesome experience to have our students back on stage and our families in the auditorium for our December concerts. Due to the current road conditions, LaFayette Central School District will operate on a two hour delay for Tuesday November 23, 2021.
There will be no AM Pre-K classes at Grimshaw Elementary and no AM BOCES CTE classes for high school students.

COVID Vaccine Clinic Ages 5-11 - Fri 11/19 GS Cafeteria 8:15-11:15 AM
We are pleased to partner with Wegmans Pharmacy to offer a COVID Vaccine Clinic on Friday November 19th from 8:15 AM - 11:15 AM at Grimshaw Elementary in the cafeteria for students ages 5-11. Yesterday, the CDC announced that the Pfizer vaccine was given emergency use authorization for this age group. Parents will need to present when their child is being vaccinated. Dr. Gupta, Onondaga County Health Commissioner, has shared that the Pfizer vaccine may soon be approved for children ages 5-11 years. To ensure an effective and efficient pediatric vaccination roll-out, the Onondaga County Health Department would like to gather information from parents with children in this age group.
Below, please find a survey link to assess the likely demand for vaccinations among those aged 5-11 years, as well as preference for where and when vaccinations will be available.

Incident - LaFayette Jr/Sr High School - October 2021:

Dear Staff Members and Families:
The district was made aware of a student situation that occurred yesterday at the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School. One student impulsively cut the hair of a Native American student . The student who cut the hair of this student was not aware of the cultural significance that hair has for Native American students and deeply regrets the actions that occurred. When our administration was made aware of the situation, administrators responded, investigated, and communicated with the families of both students. Due to a power outage, the board meeting scheduled for Wednesday September 22, 2021 at 5:30 PM has been moved to the cafeteria at Grimshaw Elementary.
